Celebrate Liberty!
On the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country, we're proud to defend the Constitutional rights that our Patriot ancestors fought hard to establish. Flying Goat Cellars is suing Santa Barbara County and Santa Barbara Vintners over the 2025 government mandate that requires us to be members of the Vintners and pay them a 1% assessment on all our direct-to-consumer sales within the state of CA. The lawsuit is based on the violation of our 1st and 5th Amendment rights by the County and the Vintners. We seek to prevent the County & Vintners from forcing our affiliation with an organization we don't want to join, as well as from taking money from our coffers for that organization.
The Goldwater Institute is championing Flying Goat Cellars in the David vs. Goliath lawsuit. Although Flying Goat is the only plaintiff in the lawsuit, there are 45-50 wineries that are silently protesting by not paying their quarterly assessment per the Vintners board of directors minutes on February 24, 2026.
