Come Over October Literary Salon

The annual international wine campaign Come Over October is off and running. The mission of the Come Over October campaign is to encourage people to invite family and friends, new and old, to come together during the month of October to share some wine and friendship. Many of us believe that through the simple act of sharing wine, we share other things that matter— generosity, caring, and a belief that being together is an essential part of human happiness.

This year there is a fabulous Wine History HitList. I especially appreciate the HitList inclusion of The Parisian "Salon" because I've been hosting my own version once a month since January 2024. Now I'd like to invite all potential salonists to join us. We are an intimate group of writers, philosophers and dreamers dedicated to civil intellectual discourse. This is not a book club and there is no homework! This month we'll be discussing how wine has been at the center of social gatherings globally for millennia. The Parisian “Salon” 1700-1930
The Parisian “salon” was popularized during the Enlightenment era when patrons of the arts or society hosts would open their doors to friends and interesting guests to debate philosophy, culture and creativity. Good wine and food flowed along with the conversation, inspiring many budget-minded artists to join in as much for the appreciation of the table as the talk (and share among their group whose parties were worth dropping in on). The trend continued through the 1920s, made famous globally by ex-pat writer Getrude Stein’s gatherings with writers like Sinclair Lewis, Ernest Hemingway and Ezra Pound.
