Deborah Breedon Artist Reception

Deborah Breedon Artist Reception

Join us for an artist reception honoring Deborah Breedon, on Friday, July 15, from 4-6pm at our Tasting Salon. Deborah is our featured artist for June and July. Come by and meet the artist and enjoy her colorful paintings of succulents over wine and cheese. Below is Deborah's statement:

Growing up in Santa Barbara with the mountains and the ocean so close together has been an opportunity to see the brilliance of color under many kinds of light. Blessed with such a background of natural artwork, I have looked at other places, some tropical, and some just in my mind, where the colors are real or imagined. I love the process of how a color is created, how many colors can create the perfect shade or highlight, or an emotion, or a connection to the spirit. I had the good fortune to study with Robert Frame and Ken Nack at Santa Barbara City College, painters/teachers whose grounded originality, enthusiasm, and creative genius knew no bounds

I have actively pursued a lifelong interest and dedication to art for 35 years and am committed to expand my personal boundaries by teaching and participating in professional studies in Art History and Studio Arts. My areas of experience primarily in Pastel, also Acrylic, and Oil painting. I am a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association, SCAPE, Lompoc Valley Art Association, The Pastel Society of America and a Signature artist with the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

I have participated in dozens of solo and group exhibitions and as a cancer survivor - on the forefront of art in wellness, giving artistic support to those seeking sustained encouragement during their own personal struggle of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.  I was also bestowed the Marcia Burtt Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens Humanitarian Award for Artistic Excellence in 2007.

Pastels have always attracted me as the luminosity of the pure pigment and the layering of one color over another brings a painting to its wonderful completion. Painting in pastels has always been a first choice, and I will forever enjoy painting the local landscape, succulents and more in this beautiful medium. The pastels of Degas, Mary Cassat and Toulouse-Lautrec and more recently Wolf Kahn have been an influence and inspiration to me when I behold the simplest of subject matter painted in such delightful splendor.

Retired from teaching classes at SBCC Center for Lifelong Learning, I now teach private workshops in pastel and watercolor. You are welcome to visit me by appointment in my studio with a call 805-403-8082 or www.deborahbreedon.com Thank you!

Deborah Breedon is also represented by Gallery Los Olivos at 2920 Grand Ave, Los Olivos, CA 93441; www.gallerylosolivos.com
