Whence We Came!

Whence We Came!

Norm and I attended a UC Davis Aggies football game against Cal Poly Mustangs in San Luis Obispo, CA, last weekend. Norm's Alma Mater Aggies won! While sitting in the stands, we reminisced about our respective youths on opposite coasts. In 1974, Norm was the captain of the Tamalpais High School football team in Mill Valley, CA, and I was a cheerleader for Dunwoody High School (a suburb of Atlanta, GA).

From 1976-1979, Norm played football for the Aggies, which was then a non-scholarship football program. In 1977 & 1978, UC Davis played in the Division 2 National playoffs as the only non-scholarship program. In the 1977 game, UC Davis played on national television with former Notre Dame coach Ara Parseghian announcing for ABC Sports. It was a thrill of a lifetime for Norm because his Latvian grandfather living in PA was able to see him play on television against a PA team.

I moved on from football players to surfers, artists, polo players and politicians. Norm gave up cheerleaders for cerebral women, hence his arrival at our relationship. 😂

The story of a football player and a cheerleader coming together for their Super Goat Bowl. Savor the past and toast the present! Let’s have a party!!

I was into watching college football playoffs in 1977 when I graduated from an upstate NY engineering college. But I was a beer & bourbon drinker, not a wine drinker. I probably watched that 1977 game not knowing decades later I would become a wine drinker and collector as well as get to know Norm and enjoy his wines.
