With advance notice, Chef Clark will accommodate dietary restrictions.
This will be our fifteenth annual Winemaker Dinner at the historic La Purísima Mission, located just a couple miles outside of Lompoc. Our event offers a unique culinary and wine experience in the context of historical appreciation. We also emphasize social responsibility, sustainability and diversity/inclusion with our partnerships.
Our winemaker, Norm Yost, has been in the industry for over 40 years and settled in Santa Barbara County in 1998. He launched his own labels, Flying Goat in 2000, and Goat Bubbles in 2005. Yost is the quintessential boutique winemaker handcrafting limited lots of vineyard designated wines from the finest vineyards in Santa Barbara County. Two wines featured at the dinner are reputed Orange County Wine Competition award winners: 2017 Goat Bubbles Brut Cuvée (Gold) and the 2017 Pinot Noir Dierberg Vineyard (Double Gold).
Our venue, La Purísima Mission State Historic Park, is the most completely restored mission in California and owned by the State. It offers a bucolic and relaxed setting for special events, surrounded by historic buildings and tucked within a small canyon, La Cañada de los Berros. Our event is held at The Historic Mission Garden and La Sala. There is also an adjacent room, The Refectory, for a private party of 10-12 guests. Arrive early to visit The Main Church and The Padre’s Chapel.
Our chef, Clark Staub from Full of Life Flatbread, will be catering the event again this year. Full of Life was established in 2003 and quickly became a main attraction in Los Alamos, CA. Staub uses local, organic and sustainable ingredients whenever possible, as well as foraged and wild foods. He's strategically located amongst a lot of farms so he can access incredibly fresh ingredients within a few hundred miles.
Our beneficiary, Return to Freedom Wild Horse Conservation, is located just outside Lompoc. Return to Freedom is dedicated to preserving the freedom, diversity, and habitat of America’s wild horses and burros through sanctuary, education, advocacy, and conservation, while enriching the human spirit through direct experience with the natural world. Flying Goat produces a special label called Celebrate Freedom with 40% of the sales going directly to Return to Freedom. We will be pouring Celebrate Freedom at the dinner.
Another community partner, ExploreLompoc, is a great resource for local lodging and dining options, as well as other useful information about Lompoc Valley.
The menu will be available soon. Check out photos from the 2021 event here.
