Tasting Notes
Ruby in color, this wine definitely illustrates “Santa Maria sunshine” in a bottle with hints of leather, pepper and spice on the nose. The savory palate delights with hints of plum, light smoked oak, sweet tobacco and earth. This is an “Old World” wine.
Vineyard Notes
Riverbench Vineyard was established in 1973, when the first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes were planted on the bank of the Sisquoc River, known as the Santa Maria Bench. Riverbench Vineyard currently consists of 115 acres of Pinot Noir and 15 acres of Chardonnay. In 2015, Riverbench added Pinot Meunier, the third grape varietal famous in Champagne and featured in our bubbles por olio since 2021. In 2009, Riverbench was certified as sustainable by the SIP (Sustainability in Practice) program. While not certified as organic or biodynamic, they follow many of the same practices. Moreover, Riverbench goes above and beyond the certification requirements in terms of their planting of cover crops, protection of wildlife, and use of minimal intervention in the winemaking facility.
