Pinot Noir Clone 2A & Pinot Meunier; 30 cases produced
Tasting Notes
This elegant wine is visually reminiscent of an English Tea Rose. It offers subtle hints of Mexican papaya, guava, green banana and perhaps even white peach on the nose. The fresh flavors of apples and pears delight the palate.
Vineyard Notes
Riverbench Vineyard was established in 1973, when the first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes were planted on the bank of the Sisquoc River, known as the Santa Maria Bench. Riverbench Vineyard currently consists of 115 acres of Pinot Noir and 15 acres of Chardonnay. In 2015, Riverbench added Pinot Meunier, the third grape varietal famous in Champagne and featured in our bubbles portfolio since 2021. Our first vintage of their Pinot Meunier coincided with the release of the movie "Barbie” and was quickly dubbed “Barbie Bubbles” due to the playful color of the label and wax cap. It is an Extra Brut expression. Silver Cuvee also sources from our old favorite Rio Vista Vineyard, the eastern gateway to the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Clone 2A is one of the Wadenswil selection, a group of
Pinot Noir clones imported from Switzerland in the 1950’s. Many like to use 2A as a “blender” as it tends to add red fruit, spice and nuances like violets and blueberries to a wine, without affecting density or tannin structure.
