"Damp earth and porcini-dust aromas meet with dried meats, clove and crushed berry on the nose of this bottling. A black raspberry compote flavor is lifted by chai spice and salted pork elements on the layered palate."

Food Pairing

Pair this tasty wine with grilled salmon, paella, BBQ pork or even blueberry clafoutis.

Production Notes

Clones 667 and 777;  200 cases produced

Tasting Notes

Upon release, this youthful wine is best left to breath to fully enjoy the intoxicating aromatics on the nose and lingering expression on the palate. The dusty earth aroma is complemented by hints of dark plum or blackberry jam.

Vineyard Notes

Planted in 1997, the Dierberg Vineyard is located in the middle of Santa Maria Valley. It's the oldest of three vineyards owned by the Dierberg family in Santa Barbara County. The vineyard boasts 161 acres of rolling hills with mostly sandy loam soils, about 2/3 of which is planted to Pinot Noir. We have enjoyed working with the Dierberg family, vineyard managers and fruit from this vineyard since 2001.

Winemaker Notes

Beginning in 2001, we enjoyed working with the fruit from this vineyard. It was the second vineyard in the Flying Goat portfolio and Kate’s personal favorite. Over a series of years Mother Nature took a toll on the vineyard and the DIerberg family opted to pull out all the vines after the 2019 harvest. We’re sorry to see Dierberg go but Flying Goat enjoyed a great 19 year run!
