"Peppered charcuterie aromas meet with cranberry, bay leaf and orange-peel scents on the nose of this bottling. The palate begins with a tart plum tone before opening toward smoked meat, roasted fennel and ample thyme spice."

--Matt Kettmann

Food Pairing

Pair with pork roast and cherry reduction sauce, mac ’n cheese with smoked gouda or smoked duck. For the sweet pairing, try Espresso Pots de Crème. Ageability of the wine is easily 5-10 years from date of release. P.S. Cooper prefers it with his Kirkland chicken meal & rice biscuits.

Tasting Notes

This is a real “pupster” pleaser! Cooper loves the nose of this tasty wine, featuring brown spice and leather, stewed sour cherry, cranberry and red plum. The medium garnet color lures you in to enjoy the red currant flavors on the palate, bringing to mind lingonberry jam on buttered brioche. This wine is dark and stormy with Burgundian undertones.

Vineyard Notes

Three different blocks and three different clones comprise Rio Vista Vineyard. This meticulously farmed vineyard sweeps down the hillside on the southeastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, overlooking the Santa Ynez River – hence its name, “River View”. The grapes for Cooper’s Cuvée are Clone 667.

Winemaker Notes

This exclusive release is a special tribute to our pooch, Cooper, for his 10th birthday. Our adorable chocolate lab mix was initially called the “Pinot Puppy”, when a photo of him playing with Pinot grapes in the vineyard circulated in the media. He matured into everyone’s favorite tasting room greeter. After his first decade, he is still going strong and delights all with his playful spirit.
